Hiwassee College to Offer Summer Courses

During the summer months, Hiwassee College will be offering classes that are open to the public. Dr. Beth R. Scruggs, Vice President and Academic Dean said, “We are excited to be able to once again offer summer classes to traditional aged students who wish to get an early start on their college courses. Many students take advantage of the opportunity to complete core courses before the regular Fall or Spring term. Non-traditional students, including military personnel and working adults, are also encouraged to apply.”

The May Mini-Term at Hiwassee College runs from May 8 through May 25. Course offerings include: American Literature, Information Literacy, Communication, College Algebra, General Chemistry and Developmental Math.

Hiwassee College to Host TSSBDA Concert Festival

On Saturday, April 28, over 1,500 students representing more than 25 East Tennessee high school concert bands will be participating in the Tennessee Secondary Schools Band Director Association (TSSBDA). The bands annually compete for a rating of Superior, Excellent or Good. This the sixth year that the event will be held on the Hiwassee College campus. Keith Trout, Assistant Director of the Sequoyah Band said, “We are very happy to partner with Hiwassee College and pleased about this opportunity to showcase the talented young musicians in the area.”

Dental Hygiene Pinning Ceremony to be Held at Hiwassee College

On Saturday, May 5, the Dental Hygiene Class of Hiwassee College will take part in a pinning ceremony on campus. This event is a symbolic welcoming as new dental hygienists enter the profession. Dr. Shelley Diviney, Program Director, said, “We are very proud of these students and their accomplishments. They have successfully completed all of the requirements of the dental hygiene program.”
